How Elevation Builds a Positive Company Culture

Building a positive company culture is an integral part of business. It not only attracts and retains long-tenured employees, but it also makes for a more positive and supportive workplace. Elevation Corporate Health, founded by Tom Kapp and Sandy Meagher, are celebrating their 25th year of being in business due to creating a positive workplace. In this article, we will showcase the many ways Elevation invests in their people to create a great company culture.

Training and Education

One of the reasons why employees become long-tenured employees is because of the ongoing training and education that they can receive. Sara Baker, the Director of Training & Education, has created educational programs to incentivize employees to continue learning in their field and become leaders in the industry. Here are a few programs that Elevation has created:


Professional Development

Employees are rewarded for the professional development they do outside of the workplace. By going above and beyond the call of duty, Elevation recognizes those who are continuing to grow their knowledge by implementing a point system in which they can redeem prizes (such as an additional PTO day!) and be recognized at annual parties. In addition, Elevation offers Personal Development money to be used for continuing education.

I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to invest in me (and other managers). It means so much for an owner to give such undivided and helpful attention to any employee, especially when trying to learn a new role. I also appreciate that you're always available to help and answer questions. I've had many jobs where the "higher ups" didn't seem to care much about staff's professional growth or well-being and it always frustrated me. Private Workshops and Quarterly Trainings

Elevation implements yearly private workshops that employees can attend to learn more about different subjects, such as training active aging clients, kettlebell training, and pre- and post-natal training. Employees can earn CEC’s and use them towards renewing their certifications.

All group fitness instructors must go through an in-house certification to ensure that all employees meet industry standards. Not only that, managers go through an extensive Management Training to make sure they are well versed in all aspects of leading a fitness facility and team members.

Education Hub

Using an internal message board, employees and Home Office staff can post articles, share advice, and provide ongoing training. Using this hub offers employees a forum to communicate and feel connected to fellow employees they wouldn’t otherwise connect to. Because Elevation has clients spanning the entire United States, this bridges the gap between employees and helps to build a close-knit culture.

Culture Club

If that wasn’t enough, Elevation recently implemented a Culture Club, a group of individuals who are teaming up together to create more company-wide incentives to generate a deeper sense of community. Using each individual’s strengths such as marketing, leadership, personal training, or coaching, they will be working together to create fun challenges, incentives, trainings, and more.


Annual Celebration Parties & Social Events


While many employees manage one-man fitness centers or large corporations, it’s important that employees get to meet each other face-to-face at least once a year. Managers from the East and West gather for annual celebration parties to celebrate the previous year’s achievements, reward exemplary behavior, and celebrate another year ahead. Managers also host smaller scale social events in addition to the annual parties.


25th Anniversary Fun

Celebrating 25 years is something that every employee feels proud to be a part of. For the entire year of 2019, employees have come together to celebrate the big achievement. From creating a huge nation-wide scavenger hunt, to collaborating on video montages, to creating company-wide fundraisers, Elevation has been in full swing to celebrate the cause.
